Today, Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) officials announced they have been notified of a Story County resident confirmed with COVID-19.
“This patient tested positive at a McFarland Clinic facility in Story County,” said Andrew Perry, Chief Executive Officer. “The patient was identified as symptomatic. Staff informed the patient to arrive at the Clinic facility and remain in the vehicle for testing. Staff conducted the test following the necessary safety and infection control measures. The patient is at home.”
A total of two confirmed cases of COVID-19 are now in two counties (Carroll and Story) that McFarland Clinic serves. Only the Story County patient tested positive at a McFarland Clinic facility. IDPH identified staff exposure as low risk.
“We have taken additional actions to ensure the care and safety of our patients, staff and the community at large,” said Perry.
A Message from Our CEO
McFarland Clinic is taking the following measures:
McFarland Clinic has established a plan for designated clinics for high-risk patients with suspected upper respiratory infections and other COVID-related symptoms. These clinics are in Ames, Carroll, and Marshalltown to treat higher risk patients at a separate location while ensuring all other patients continue to receive the medical care they expect. Identified patients will be scheduled into these clinics through their physician’s office or the McFarland COVID-19 Nurse Phone Line.
McFarland COVID-19 Nurse Phone Line (515-500-6711)
This triage phone line is staffed by a team of nurses who will assess and provide advice for patients’ COVID-related conditions, determine what care is needed, and direct patients to the appropriate location. The line is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Screening at Entrances
Effective March 23, McFarland will be screening all patients, visitors, and staff at the doors. This is an effort to ensure people coming into Clinic facilities are healthy or masked to avoid exposure to others.
McFarland is asking patients to limit their visitors to no more than 1 or 2. These visitors will also be screened at the entrances.
All McFarland locations are reviewing reception areas and workspaces to ensure that patients and staff have enough physical space to practice proper social distancing.
